Considering a golf net?

I'm considering buying a golf net to help improve my game. I was wondering if it was worth it and how it would improve my game? Also, how am I supposed to tell if I hit it down the middle or sliced it? Also, what about the chances of a mishit to where I miss the net? Thanks!

I went the same route as you and bought a net. From my expierence, you might want to look into getting a range mat as well, even if you plan to hit off the grass in your yard your going to run out of grass and will have to keep moving the net around. I would also save the driver for the driving range. I bought a mid-high priced net and they rip easy after some time. Besides hitting a driver into a net isn't going to make anyone better lol

Also if you could put your setup on a flat surface such as a driveway it will cause you less stress. You'd be surprised how something like a uneven surface can drive you crazy. You won't be able to really tell whether your shot was straight or not. A net is better for working on swing mechanics and getting the feel of your clubs. Hank Haney even said and recommends that if you take 100 (air swings) swings a day in your house, your going to get a better feel of the golf swing and shoot better scores, And if your actually hitting a ball into a net no doubt will you improve.

    Hope this helps, good luck

Jeff is pretty much right but to be more specific, if you're a 15 handicap or above or you should over 100, the net will hurt more then help. You won't know if you're slicing or hooking and you could be ingraining this bad swing into your brain. Get lessons, play more golf course golf and get down to the low 90s and then get a net for practice. Net practice should not dominate your golf course time. If you have to sneak on a hole and hit a few balls that's better than hitting into a net. Remember there's no such thing as a perfectly flat lie on a golf course.

Bro, using a net should be considered a practice method and should not be a worry. Your distance from the net should only be enough so that you almost touch the five feet before the net. As for judging whether you slice or hook you may want to paint a line on either side of the center of the net and aim for the center when you swing into the ball.

a net is to learn how to hit it in the center of the clubface, and learn to square the clubface and start the ball down the middle of the net/fairway

most of the Korean girls hit into a net for years, then they go to a multi tier range for years, they never even set foot on a course for years

swingpath is what causes a slice, simply place an empty water bottle behind the ball abut 6" and just far enough away so the toe of your club just barely misses it as it goes back. if you hit the bottle coming back down into the ball that was an outside in path so you hit a slice

by the way if you take this swing to the range after hitting the net and the ball curves left in a hook you are not turning your hips enough, good news though this is the pro mistake

I had one, and the wind would blow it down or I'd forget about it. I got a old mat from the golf range and used that to hit off. I would hit Driver with old golf balls and they went thru the net and broke windows. as would a all the woods. So I would use 7 irons and shorter that is with real golf balls. now if you use those yellow ping pong like balls then you can hit anything you want. These balls will show you if you are hooking or slicing they fly up to 70-80 yds.. I mainly used the net to help my rhythm and impacting the golf ball..about missing the net its not easy if you are close to it.

I'd invest in a Carpet and hang if from your Ceiling . ( either in garage or media room etc. )

You can hit into the carpet and hear the "thud" of the ball . It's a great sound to hear that thud instead of the nothing sound of a net. Get a Launch Monitor to show you the Performance of the ball off the club face. WOrk with this when you can't get to the Range. It could also be good to work outdoors with a launch monitor if you can afford a ncie one and some computer or device to see the Numbers and track your Practice.

You stand about 2 meters from the net so you don't miss hitting the net. No you can't tell whether you hook or slice it by hitting to the net. The best way is to practice at a driving range.
