How do I get him to commit?

I met this wonderful man (he's 25 and im 27) 5 few months ago. We had instant chemistry and hit it off well. Yes, we were intimate and continue to be. We get along great and he is respectful and good to me. We have fun. However, he has made a comment before along the lines that he wasn't really looking for a girlfriend but if it happens it happens. That comment upset me. We haven't made anything official yet. Im waiting for him. I really like him and would love nothing more then to be in a serious committed relationship with him. Here's the thing, I font know what to do. I dont know how to handle this situation. I want him to know how I feel and that I care about him and want to be with him. However, I dont want to come across as desperate, needy, or pushy. I dont want to chase him away by being clingy or moving too fast. At the same time I don't want to just sit back and not say anything and have him think he can come and go when he wants and do what he pleases. I dont want him thinking that im on his beck and call and for him to not take me seriously. I am lost. I have no idea what to do. I know that he has had only one serious relationship (2 1/2) years. I know he really loved the girl and she completely screwed him over. Not sure if that has anything to do with him not wanting a relationship or not. I think he still loves her but she has moved on and is engaged to another man now. Should I play hard to get or blow him off every now and then. Should I act like I dont care? Its kind of hard to play hard to get when we've already been intimate and hard to blow him off when I really just want to spend time with him. Should I tell him how I feel or just lay low and play it cool? Please help. Maybe I can help and answer your questions too. Thank you.
