If Jesus was of the house of David, how did they dare crucify him?

Everyone knows the beginning of the Christmas story and the manger. It starts out by stating that "Joseph, being of the house of David, ...." The House of David was obviously important to the status of Joseph and therefore of Jesus in that society. Why then, if he came from Kings, and was a member of the house of David, would they crucify him.

Because Israel had been conquered by Rome at that time and King David's house was not in power as it had been in the past. A puppet "king" was chosen by Rome just like modern countries have done after they'd captured a nation and wanted to give the people the illusion of autonomy. The leader is put there to answer to the conqueror nation and to keep the vanquished nation in line. David's house was not in power. In addition, it was the Romans who crucified him not the people of Israel. The religious leaders demanded that he be crucified because his words threatened their power and their corruption...similar to what happens in modern times when someone speaks out against problems in a certain area. Remember, Dr. King was killed after speaking out against injustice. Those in power will try to shut you down if they think that your words will incite others to change things so that they have less influence. They "dared" because his family was not in power. These leaders only respect power that they can see. Because they couldn't see Jesus' power (in terms of him sitting on a throne and dressed like royalty), they felt that killing him would be beneficial to them. They also didn't care despite knowing his heritage (there was a census taken when he was born and his family traveled to Jerusalem). Also other kings were killed by people in the past who disliked their rule, disagreed with what they were doing, desired the throne for themselves or because the person was a tyrant and was mistreating the people.

You need to study the account, the Jews got the Romans to put Jesus to death, impaling was a way of execution at that time, Jesus wasn't hung on a cross, the ones that were tied to a cross were those that were sacrificed to the ground as a living sacrifice and that was sun worshipers, Jesus was hung-nailed on a stake (stau·ros′) an upright pole, false religion uses the cross because it appeased the pagans because of their sun god Tammuz symbol, the cross, these sun god pagans have another part of their pagan belief that has been adulterated into the Christian faith, the halo!

“Various objects, dating from periods long anterior to the Christian era, have been found, marked with crosses of different designs, in almost every part of the old world. India, Syria, Persia and Egypt have all yielded numberless examples. The use of the cross as a religious symbol in pre-Christian times and among non-Christian peoples may probably be regarded as almost universal, and in very many cases it was connected with some form of nature worship.”—Encyclopedia Britannica (1946), Vol. 6, p. 753.

    Hello,

    1) He was "not" a Roman citizen and Roman law said that it was forbidden to flog or crucify a Roman citizen. Anyone else could be including the Jews.

    2) Paul was a Roman citizen and that's why he got a quick beheading. He was mistakenly flogged and when the Roman Prefect, Felix found out he raised hell about it and made things right for Paul in setting up a fair future hearing and appeal to the emperor in Rome itself.

    Cheers,

Because the people were blind due to sin.

There have been previous heirs of the Davidic lineage who were terrible, and so they thought that Jesus was similar. As they say; "They didn't see the elephant in the room".

According to the "Jesus" myth itself, Joseph had no participation in the conception of "Jesus." So whether he was "of the house of David" or not is irrelevant.

And in Jewish family lines, the mother's line is irrelevant -- having a mother of the "house of David" does not make any of her sons "of the house of David."

So any actual "Jesus" (the existence of whom is not supported by any evidence anyway) *couldn't* be of the "house of David." Unless, of course, Joseph was his actual father.

    Oops.

The house of David, not the seed of David, but the HOUSE of David.

------------------------- Can you answer the following question asked by Jesus himself -----------------------------

41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.

43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

    Matt 22:41-45 (KJV)

------------------------------- To answer this question you must understand the truth ---------------------------------

1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

8 And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.

11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

14 But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

    1 Chron 17:1-15 (KJV)
