What does the colorize option under hue/saturation in photoshop do?
Couldn't you not check that box and get the same result? If not, please explain the difference in results. It seems like the second line in the panel goes a dark red. What is the point of that?

Without Colorize, Hue/Saturation adjusts all colors by a relative amount. The image will have the same variations in color, but the colors themselves will be shifted. For instance, reds may be orange, oranges may be yellow, blues may be violet.
With Colorize, Hue/Saturation will shift colors to that specific hue. All previous colors will be replaced by a single color. The popular 'sepia tone' adjustment is an example.
With Colorize enabled, as you change the hue, the saturation bar will adjust to show the range of possible colors. Adjusting the saturation will weaken the colors towards neutral grays, or make the chosen color more intense.
