How can I get my iPad working again?

Guys, I need help. Serious help.

I think I broke my iPad, and I'm freaking out.

My iPad is completely unresponsive. I was browsing the web on Safari and updating some apps in the background when suddenly the entire iPad froze. I can do nothing on it now. It's frozen on Safari. I can't close the app, can't turn off the iPad, nothing. I can lock it, but when I turn the screen back on, it's still stuck on Safari. There is no lock screen and I am not asked to enter my password.

I have no idea why this is happening. My thought was just to let the battery run down and let the iPad die, then charge it and try again.

Do any of you have any idea on how to fix this issue? I have homework and studying to do on the iPad over break, so I'd like it to be functioning again as soon as possible.

Please help if you can. Any assistance and advice is appreciated.
