tinnitus and hearing loss in right ear with menieres?
I am a 40 year old female:- About 2 years ago I was dianosed with Menieres my affected ear was mainly the right ear I was prescribed Serc and fluid tablets and it kept the symptoms under control for the most part and it was only intermittantly that I would have symptoms now the Serc doesnt work at all I even tried doubling up on the dose and it didnt help - now I have Tinnitus (ringing in my ear) 24/7 which can be blocked somewhat with white noise (like a shopping centre noise) but when Im in silence or I lie down to go to bed it gets quite bad.
The other new symptom is hearing loss in my right ear this has been constant and going on for 2 weeks now I have trouble hearing people and what they are saying - example: I was with my 11 year old daughter at a shopping centre when a stranger stopped me and asked me something I couldnt hear her the only word I caught was earrings and I must have looked confused so she repeated the question and again I only caught earrings (I was trying to read her lips as well) then my daughter (who I can hear maybe her pitch) said "Mum she wants to know where priceline is" I said "OH" and went to tell her but she rolled her eyes and walked off.
Another incident I was at my daughters Cheer gym and someone asked me a question I thought she asked me where the toilet was so I told her she looked confused and again asked me the question and pointed to her wrist and it was then I realised she was asking me the time.
Today being Christmas Day everything is closed in regards to hearing tests and seeing specialists so Im trying to just put up with it for now ... I visited my Aunt and she suggested I might need a hearing aid as I couldnt hear a lot of what she was saying - we then visited my parents and sister and my father (who also has Menieres and is completely deaf in one ear from a motorcycle accident when he was in his 20s and has tinnitus in his other ear and hearing loss and he does have a hearing aid) anyway my father suggested I should look into possibly getting a hearing aid - I have a hearing test and ENT appointment on 22 January but until then there isnt a lot I can do.
I have done online hearing tests with earphones I pass with the left ear and fail dismally with my right ear.
I am getting tired easily and head aches from straining to hear people (for example if there are 2 conversations going on in a room I cant focus on the person Im speaking to) Im trying to lip read to match the shapes of the mouth with the sounds im hearing to try to understand what is being said and all this with still one good ear im still having all this problem .... my question (sorry took me a long time to get to it) what can I expect when I see the ENT? Is a hearing aid an option? Ive read about white noise generators is this better although Im not sure it will help with the hearing loss it would just block the tinnitus... What have other people experienced? What has helped you or someone you know in my situation?

My answer isn't really helpful but it's just to say I understand about the not being able to hear people. My right ear is the same. I've literally just posted a question on it for help as I'm worried. But I get so embarrassed not. Being able to hear people it becomes awkward to the point I feel like a child looking up to an adult and asking what they said and most of the time I will just ask whoever I'm with to answer for me etc. I've lost confidence and self esteem and independence. I'm sorry your going through it :-(. The pain is so severe!
