Filming Events that Require Admission?

How do photographers/ videographers deal with events that require an admission charge? How does the person filming the event gain admittance and how can they get to a vantage point that accommodates their camera and equipment.

Update:

Example: If a local martial artist wanted me to film them at a national tournament, how do I swing getting admission to the event and being allowed to set up my gear on the floor near his events. I'm sure the 10,000 people around me wouldn't oblige me setting up in the stands.

If you are talking about the people that are right on stage, or next to it, they are employed by the artists or venues. They have all access passes that let them walk around freely to get the shots.

They get what's called a "press pass."

Big events will have a press contact--someone who works with and assists the media (newspapers, magazines, television, etc.)--to help promote the event. One part of that is gaining admission for the media at those events and helping them cover and promote the event. All that's done through the press office or media contact.

    Hope that helps.
