I need a camcorder with an external mic to record youtube videos?
The sound quality on my videos is terrible because I use my iPhone and I have it on a tripod away from my voice. I do voice-overs with the rest of my video, so the sound quality is distinctively better on the voice overs.
I need a camcorder that I can clip on a microphone to my shirt or something so the audio is better when I'm far away from the camera.
I guess 1080p would be nice for video quality, but I'd like to compare prices with 720p as well. I also want something that isn't going to take days uploading into iMovie with conversations and all that nonsense.
Please please help me pick out a camcorder that has an external mic, 1080p or 720p, and compatible with iMovie.

How far away do you need to be from the camera? Assuming more than 20 feet (7 meters) then wireless audio is more desirable. There are less expensive units... but a good middle of the road product with good quality is the Sennheiser G3 EW100 series.
The clip on mic (lavalier) connects with a thin wire to a body pack. The body pack send the audio wirelessly to a base station. The base station plugs into the camcorder.
We don't know what Mac you are using - so we don't know if anything will "take days" to upload to iMovie. The Canon HF R400 is a place to start.
