French is not that commonly spoken a language either.

If you are living in the U.S. the only places it would be advantageous to you is Louisiana or French speaking parts of Canada. I find our old nemesis Russia to be a more fascinating country than France is as well. Fewer Americans are aware of its rich history than that of France. To know the Russian language and to study its people and history would be an invaluable personal experience for you.

Russian. Why? Because you want it. It will make learning so much easier and more fun.

Don't worry too much about how "useful" a language is. Classes just give you a taste of a language. They really don't prepare you to have detailed conversations with native speakers. So unless you plan on doing a TON of work on your own, your choice should mainly be based on what you enjoy.
