help with orthopaedic stockings?

I've recently started to put orthopaedic stockings on my grandma every morning......here's the problem, I can't get them on without hurting her, there so damn tight and her leg is so big from water retention is there a trick to these little suckers or what? Getting it over her heal is the real problem

Update:

Just to clarify the stockings are the size there suppose to be their ment to be tight because medicine does not work for the swelling

I used to roll them completely down to where the heel is and then fit the foot into the rolled-down section, and then just roll them up. it sounds awkward but it really is easy.

Whimsy has got it right !

The instructions of how to put them on, with illustrations would be on the box for the stockings.

Make sure your grandma has just had a shower and that her legs are well dried before applying the stockings. Some powder on her feet/heel will help to ease them on over her heel.

Make sure your grandma has her legs elevated on a a foot stool during the day.

I've had some recent experience with this since my husband broke his leg last month. Every time he has a surgery (and he's had a hip replacement and two knee replacements), I have to re-learn how to do it. The only thing I can tell you is that it takes patience and above all, practice. It gets easier each time you do it. Good luck and I surely wish I could help you more.

Ask her doctor or someone in the office for a different size maybe?

And she should be taking something that keeps her from swelling up during the night, so that in the morning her feet and legs aren't so bad.

If the link doesn't work ask google about different sizes in orthopedic stocking. I think they gave you the wrong size and unfortuneately it's up to you to say, hey this is the wrong size, I need a larger size for her.
