Try to make her favorite foods,if that isn't possible try homemade soup, shakes are good but don't expect her to eat a lot do small portions start three times a day then add a snack to it.like cheese crackers or fruit, yogurt start everything small like fruit half Apple or whatever she can eat you will have to join her make it a happy time after surgry who wants to eat, anaesthetic it decreases appetites if she's on pain meds that will slow her down,if it continues call her Dr.make him aware of this soon.older people can get dehydrated fast so keep water, tea, coffee, going make her drink at least half a cup every hr half just keep offering it to her.I did this for my grandma it helped, also just be patient don't get mad at her if she can't she can't good luck to u and your mom I hope this helped .

Some recent research studies have found that a molecule found in milk, called Nicotinamide Riboside, increases mitochondrial function in cells and reverses ageing in mice.

Human trials of this supplement will be finished next year to determine if this molecule has the same effect in human cells. But there is no harm in drinking more milk now, just in case it does work in people too.

Mitochondrial function is impaired in old people. And if this can be reversed, then not only will this increase the appetite of old people but it will also make them stronger and more able to do things.

Pot brownies? Haha but in all seriousness,

    Cinnamon increases appetite.

Eat less fiber. Cut back on rice, pasta, and whole grain cereal.

    Get some exercise.

Don't let her eat alone. Make meals and snacks a social affair.

Drink meal replacement shakes, or make protein smoothies.

Use aroma therapy to surround her with good smells, room sprays, candles, or oils, (vanilla, baked goods, ect)

After meals serve a relatively healthy, home-made dessert, (banana split, trifle, breakfast cookie)

Give her little meals (at least 6 in a day). Just bites of tasty nutritious things. My mother enjoyed milk shakes and fruit smoothies, and these boosted her energy. Don't expect your mother to eat much, but little by little she should pick up.

Elderly seem to love sweets and she'll get the calories although not nutritious. There are medications that will increase her desire to eat but they can be very expensive.
