Why are Newports always stereotyped as a Black cigarette?

Because they have menthol in them. In the early 1900s it was found that Black people used a lot of products with menthol in them, so it was also put into cigarettes, which might be why they're considered "black people cigarettes". There's some truth to it, most Black people that I've known that smoke either smoke Newports of Kools, both have menthol. Cigarettes with menthol are a lot more harmful to your lungs, I was told the menthol cuts up the inside of your throat.

A habit exploited by the tobacco companies..I worked a on a door to door study some years back...and it was to see if black folks smoked Kools...that was the one mentholated brand once associated with the black community...most of the folks I interviewed reported liking the 'chill' of the smoke as opposed to other cigarettes..and those companies really advertised heavily via billboards, magazines, and radio with content aimed specifically for blacks...Newports apparently are the successor but these smokes would not remain hot sellers if it were just blacks...and the statement is just a level of juvenile stereotyping...sounds like someone who doesn't know how to have a more adult conversation...should be trying to help you kick the habit rather than making a racial thing...just an adult's observation..so you are right everyone smokes them.

Probably cause they're a relatively cheap in price. If you're going to smoke cigarettes you might ad well spend a couple extra bucks and get Marlboros or something.

Because they are the ones who ALWAYS buy them. They are crack head cigarettes. The few white people that do buy them only do it to fit in or to be cool.
