How do I become a First Responder in NY?

I'm 16 years old and I want to become a certified first responder. I really want to help out on ambulances. I can't be an emt yet because I'm too young but the age to be a cfr is 16 in NY. I don't know where to begin. Also can cfr's work on ambulances?

It doesn't say where to go, but everyone I know that's a CFR or EMT started out at their local FD (at least here on Long Island). That might be your best bet.
