Has anyone had steroid injections for a frozen shoulder?
What sort of effect did the injections have, did you get any relief?
I have a frozen shoulder, I've had the x-rays and am due to start steroid injections the week following New Year. I'm not worried about how painful they are, but I am curious what effect the injections have.
How often did you have them, and how much did they help?
Also, if you have any tips for managing the condition I'd be interested. I'm currently using paracetamol and the occasional codeine, and hot baths.
I can't take Ibuprofen due to meds for another condition.
Thanks.

The steroid injection is usually combined with local aneasthetic to reduce pain. The injection itself is not very painful if administered properly. There tends to be a brief period of instant relief, due to the anaesthetic. This wears off after a couple of hours and is often followed by several days of a dull ache. Many patients will then get gradual improvement over the next 4-5 days. Usually 1-3 injections are needed.
Paracetamol is fine, avoid codeine as it is constipating and addictive and a poor analgesic. An NSAID such as ibuprofen or diclofenac might help the pain, provided that you have no contraindications.

I had a frozen shoulder for nine months so painful this sounds crazy but I went out new years eve and was sat next to a boy who was very drunk and for some reason thought he would tickle me. I wasn't impressed as it was irritating and he wouldn't stop. The good thing is as crazy as it seems it cured my frozen shoulder that night I could stretch it back up straight its normal now and keep thinking was it a trapped nerve that became undone due to the tickle monster see if it works for you.

How is your shoulder? Did the steroids help?
I'm a bit unconventional and am not keen on steroids as they tend to only work while you have them and dont address the underlying problem. But can be good for temporary help.
I have 30 years of massage and aromatherapy behind me professionally and its pretty good, but for this type of thing I would recommend a really good acupuncturist. There is quack, trained and expert types. Just look at experts, obviously! There is a register, good ones are usually on the register.
If you cant contemplate acupuncture (and I hate needles but do have it when required) look at finding a good osteopath. Personal recommendation is as usual the best.
Good luck lass!
