Usually i just plug in the flash drive or tablet or external drive , let windows detect it, open up windows media player > click files > scroll to add to library click it > click add and put in the device letter like F: into the add to the library click okay and it will search for all music files that are new to be added to the windows media player a real shortcut go to options click library > click monitor folders and click add to put a device or folder that can be monitored for media files

Hi.
I recommend you just open the flash drive and copy the content to your user music folder....
This method will retain folders your music may be stored in and any accompanying artwork files ...
The automated option would be to adjust the computers autoplay settings to import the music files when your flash drive is connected . or ask to import the music files when the flash drive is connected.
Control panel > (Hardware & Sound) Auto play > Set preference >Save.

As Windows media player is just a player with a library list and not a "location"....
The media players library displays content stored in other locations .
It is the "Folder Watch" options in windows media player settings that updates and determines what content is added to the library ..
( Example "Music files" stored in the users "Music" folder.)
An example from a previous question.
