Do you have ANY idea whatsoever how many fish are referred to as "kingfish"? THIRTEEN!

King mackerel, Scomberomorus cavalla, Southern kingfish, Menticirrhus americanus, Gulf kingfish, Menticirrhus littoralis, Northern kingfish, Menticirrhus saxatilis, narrow-barred Spanish mackerel, Scomberomorus commerson, white croaker, Genyonemus lineatus, cobia, Rachycentron canadum, wahoo, Acanthocybium solandri, crevalle jack, Caranx hippos, yellowtail amberjack, Seriola lalandi, opah, Lampris guttatus, silver gemfish, Rexea solandri, AND giant trevally, Caranx ignobilis!

So... care to elaborate on which one exactly??

Jason, if you mean the southern or gulf kingfish, more often called whiting, just fishing on the bottom with live shrimp is about it King mackerel are also referred to as kingfish, but they are more offshore and I don't believe you'll catch them from shore.

Kingfish as in Northern kingfish? There's a quite a few slang names for kingfish.

    Source(s): or kingcroaker?
