We Saved a Kitty just before Christmas?

Well 2 days before Christmas we had a stray cat show up at our door step, skinny and very hungery. We took her in and got her dewormed and got rid of her fleas.

But the thing is we think she may be pregnant and we are trying to find out when is it too late to not get her fixed. We decided to keep her since she is only 6 months old, to young for a cat to be pregnant in our minds.

I can't call our vet because he is closed till the secound week in January. We will be getter her shots, she came around very nicely to us, and our other cats.

Thanks for the help. Oh she still has a little tummy even though we dewormed her and her belly still goes hard and is very touchy this is why we think she is pregnant. My husband has delt with a cat that has had kittens just not me. We don't know how far along she is either.

And no we will not let her have her kittens outside since it is like 0 degrees F. Outside at night and only 20 a high.

Update:

She does have little nipples that are proturding and they stick out a little but no milk as of yet. Thanks for the info, but I know there is a time you can hurt a cat and the kittens if you take them to late. Learned that from my Aunt that had a cat that had kittens when I was very young. Vets wouldn't take a littler at a certian point of the pregnancy.

First of all, nothing about your post says anything about you selling kittens. For some reason, one of the responders has decided to read something that is not there. Must be another internet psychic. You get some strange talents on the internet. Second of all, try to find a local cat rescue organization that can guide you to either another vet, or perhaps a vet that can do the operation for a reduced fee. Here in Indianapolis, we have ReTails, that has excellent success finding homes for cats and dogs, and Indy Feral, that provides services for feral cats. You might be able to get low cost spay/neuter services in your area, and other assistance as well. I do cat rescue in Indianapolis, and there are many good vets that will help out with a "found" cat. A shout out to Rockville Road Animal Clinic. Sorry, had to get them on here. You can email me at cnfrankl@yahoo.com if you need further assistance. Good luck.

Shelters will spay cats up until they are ready to deliver, so what your Aunt has told you isn't really true. A cat that age may very well require a vet-assisted delivery - my local emergency vet charges up to $2500 for that procedure - do you have that kind of money available to save her? The outcome for a young starved stray's developing kittens is grim - especially at that age. She's likely to have stillborns (increasing the risk of veterinary intervention). Call your local shelters - they understand the importance of spaying a young cat who's possibly pregnant. The quicker she can be spayed, the better.

Call a different vet. It is possible to abort a litter and spay the cat in the early weeks of pregnancy. This can't happen at your normal vets office because they will be closed during the only time when you can get it done. A cat goes into sexual maturity at 6 months old, and is able to get pregnant.

Its NOT too late for a gravid spay. And you can simply go to another vet, I fail to believe there is only one vet around. There are plenty you can do to so the cat can hav a gravid spay done

You can't hurt the cat by getting a gravid spay done., Sounds too much like you are making up excuse to allow a very young cat to have kittens so you can sell them. Vets will do gravid spays as late as the delivery date

Again it sounds too much like you are making up excuses to let the cat have kittens so you can sell them

Maybe, you could just let her have her kittens - if she is actually pregnant, and then get her spayed. A cat can be rather bloated, from the worms, though. If you "took her in" to get her wormed, did the vet suggest she was pregnant?

you can get a cat fixed at almost anytime in her pregnancy. ways to tell of shes pregnant pink nipples, lets you rub her belly, and the hard belly.

I just love vets with holiday hours. Treat animals at your convenience.
