I made the decision to join the Navy in a year. I have a question about rates?

OK so I am going to talk to a recruiter in a year and sign up as an enlisted. I want to spend this year to lose weight and get in shape. I also want to finish out my Spring and Fall semester for this year.

Here's my question: does everyone go in RTC/bootcamp as an E-1 or can you go in anywhere from an E1-E3? I'm asking this because by the end of this year I'll have 60 college credits, and I know that to be an E-3 you can have 48+ at an accredited school.

So do I go into RTC automatically as an E-1 and after 4 months get promoted to E-3

OR

Do I go into RTC as an E-3 and stay as an E-3 until I fit the qualifications for E4?

24 100 level credits allows you to enlist as an E2. 48 gets you E3. that is the highest you can get. you will be PAID at that paygrade but will be a Recruit. no stripes, no special treatment. you will not put the stripes on until pass in Review. and they mean nothing anyway. not even in A school.

you cannot make E4 until you are rated: completed A school. some ratings also require you to pass the E4 exam.

You'll get paid as an E-3, but it doesn't matter because you'll still be a boot and treated that way.

In A-school they'll probably put you in charge of cleaning the heads or the galley- or making sure the rocks are painted white around the head-shed.

    Non-rates are a dime-a-dozen, and some PO-3 are just glorified non-rates.

To get E-4, you need to have time in grade and time in service- then you also take a Rating knowledge and military knowledge test.
