Why do you assume i dont take care of my cat?
I just posted a question about my cat coming back from pound sick and the first 2 answers implied i dont take care of him. Since i cant figure out how to respond to the answers here is my defense. My cat is an indoor cat, he has all his shots and is neutered. He went to the pound because someone stole him n then decided to take him to the shelter and they notified me he had been brought in. I take very good care of my cat. I ask questions on here to get feedback not be judged. thanks for the faith.

Actually it was your fault, you did not go into detail in your first question.Someone's pet does not usually go to the pound,in less it was picked up roaming the streets.I would say it's rare that someone's cat is taken from their house and then taken to a shelter. Then Cat's don't pick up something like your cat had if it was up on it's shots so that part does not add up.Shelters usually have a low budget they do what they can. I'm not judging you,but many who answer here are hard core cat lovers and they just call it like they see it.You did get feedback, you just did not get the kind of feedback you wanted.I think if you would have put a little more information in your first question, your feedback would have been more of what you were hoping to get.

It is possible that your cat already had the virus when he went into the shelter, even if he was immunized against it. Stress seems to reactivate the virus. There are some cats who have this but they are just carriers, and the vaccination does not always prevent a cat from catching the virus, a lot of people don't know that. However, most of the time, if a cat is vaccinated properly, it will reduce the duration of the disease and the viral shedding of it.
Because of all of these things, it is NOT the responsibility of the shelter to cover the costs of your animal, they can argue that the cat already had the infection when it came in and it was reactivated because it was stressed, they can argue that vaccination does not always prevent the disease and most importantly, even if it was by accident, your cat was not in your care and was taken to the shelter. From a legal standpoint you don't have a leg to stand on here.
From link :
How can this disease be prevented?
fvr-3The standard 'core' vaccines that are given to cats include a vaccine against feline viral rhinotracheitis. The FVR vaccine will not completely prevent an infection from occurring if your cat is exposed to the virus, but it will significantly reduce the severity of the infection and will shorten the length of the illness. Solid immunity to these viruses is not long term, and may be overcome by exposure to a high dose of virus.

Unfortunately, pet people who are passionate (or condescending) immediately assume the worst about the owner if the question asked doesn't have alot of detail. I didn't see the original question but I'm glad the cat is back home where he belongs.
Pet vaccines are not unlike people vaccinations. Just because you've been vaccinated against the flu, doesn't mean you won't catch the flu. Even people answering here now assume you CAN'T be up to date because your cat got sick. Whatever. It takes awhile for the body to build up immunity from vaccines. sometimes the immunity isn't as strong as is necessary to actually fight off the disease. So if he had just gotten ALL his shots, he could have still gotten sick. Or the vaccine could have been from an ineffective batch, or lots of things. He may have gotten sick (just like some people catch the flu even though they got a flu shot) just not as bad as he could have if he HADNT gotten vaccinated.
Being an indoor cat, you might have chosen to forego certain vaccines whether its because you assumed you'd have the cat indoors all his life or for money purposes. I am an excellent pet owner, former veterinary technician, yet I don't get my 14 year old beagle vaccinated for anything but rabies anymore. Does that make me a bad pet owner? absolutely not. He goes outside to pee. He doesn't roam (fenced in yard). My other dog is completely vaccinated (she is 10 months old now), they both take heartworm prevention and flea meds (they do go outside so I consider this a must). As far as my cats, they get feline distemper and rabies, nothing else. First because they don't get groomed, are indoor only and I intend to keep them until they die. Second, because if I wanted them to go into boarding I would get the vaccine. Third, it's cheaper yearly. Fourth, it's my choice, not anyone on Yahoo to judge me about.
So, glad to hear your kitty is back, hopefully he's feeling better. Take Yahoo Answers with a grain of salt, keep up the good work as a cat guardian and don't invite that thieving neighbor over anymore! lol.

Oh wow.....people are so mean. This is a forum to answer questions, not to judge people. People ask questions to learn. You just dont start out knowing everything.
I really dont like it when pet owners act self-righteous and criticize others.
Im glad you got your cat back and I also hope it gets well quickly.

If your cat was indoors then how did you not notice it missing for four days? How did it get stolen if its an indoor cat?
The shelter is NOT responsible at all for your cats URI. If you can't afford a vet since you claim in your last question you can't afford on then you shoudl have left the cat at the shelter.
If your cat was really up to date on its vax then it wouldn't be sick and it takes more then four days for the cat to get sick. So whats the real truth?
" Now hes very sick and not only did they charge me to get him i have to pay money i dont have to get him well again."
From your other question
You also have two dogs you never take to the vet. And now you have a cat you wont take. Why do you have pets when you wont take them to the vet then turn around when you get told to take them to a vet and claim that you do. But you made it clear in your other questions before you rudely erase them that you dont
.

People on here are more critical and judgemental instead of helpful. You ask a question to get a helpful answer and you get accused of being an irresponsible pet owner. Ive had that several times. Its easier to just ask a vet or call a hotline. Im sure youre a great pet owner or else you wouldnt be worried about why your pet was sick. I suggest if you want a real answer call a vet hotline because yahoo answers isnt a good place for that.

If your cat is an indoor only cat then how did someone steal your cat? Did they break into your home and steal it? The shelter is not responsible for the health of your cat. How long was the cat missing and how long was the cat in the shelter. Odds are it came into the shelter already sick.

WHEN did he have shots? Rhino is included in the general vaccination - if he was really vaccinated then he would not have caught rhino. The shelter is NOT responsible for your sick cat.
And there is no way he could have gotten sick in a few days of being in the shelter. He had to be sick before.

I'm sorry you were judged. I hate it when people make assumptions without knowing all the facts. It's most likely due to the fact that there are so many animals where are neglected and abused out there, but people should never just assume that is the issue. I'm glad he is back home with you.

I'm sorry about your cat but happy to hear he is back home with you. People can be very judgmental on here because nobody is going to come looking for them to challenge them. It's hurtful but ignore them. They are nothing to you but an aggravation. I hope your cat feels better soon and that you do ,too.
