When you wear heels of any sort your toes get squished in the toe of the shoe. So when you stand up and walk in them your toes get squished into the toe and your feet kind of shrink. I would suggest when you buy heels you try them both on and walk around for a few mins to see how far they will squish then try the next half size down and see if that helps. Also there is a product out called foot pedals that go in your shoes that help preventing getting your toes squished. Squashed toes makes for a long night you might try them too. I hope you have happier feet and toes.

Just because you're usually a size 8.5 doesn't mean you are in every brand of shoe. If return is an option, try an 8. If not, you can get heel inserts for pretty low prices almost anywhere - Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens, whatever pharmacy.

If there that big then you should return them and get a 8 if you can't then heel inserts. You can try not to bend your toes as far as you normally would when you walk with sneakers on or flats
