why is my car shaking/vibrating really bad?
I own a 2010 Chevy Cobalt, and when I started to drive home from work today, my car started to shake , a lot. Here in Chicago it's only 12 degrees as the moment, so could that be a factor or is it a suspension/engine problem?
When driving near 45-50 mph, the steering wheel shakes so bad to the point where it is hard to control the car.
At one point my whole car seemed to be shaking, does anybody know the problem?
PS . I hit snow bank today to, not really hard but that could be an issue

Have the vehicle check out at the nearest shop for wheels about to come loose or pot of balance..

If the steering wheel is shaking it is not an engine problem, but something with the suspension, such as the struts or tie-rods. This can be dangerous, especially if it impairs control, so get it looked at by a mechanic as soon as possible, or look under the car and see if anything is obviously worn or broken.

the problem is..... you drive a cobalt! But in all seriousness what exactly is shaking? if the car just sounds like it is shaking in general then likely some screws are loose. But if the entire car feels as though its about to explode when your drive it, it is likely an engine problem.

Get the lug nut wrench in your trunk and tighten all the lug nuts in the wheels. Then take the car to the nearest shop. If your car is still under warranty, take it to your dealer.

Have the front and rear suspensions check out. It could be the wheels need to be balanced out. Any shop can do this...
