I want to paint over stain. Will a simple primer be ok to use so it doesn't bleed through?

The wood is of poor quality so would look better painted. Do I need to sand it before priming and will any primer work or do I need a specific kind. Not sure if stain is oil or water based but paint will be a latex satin.

If it is just stained and you don't know if it is oil, use an alkyd primer. You only need to sand if there is some sort of finish over the stain. That can then be top coated with the latex paint.

You can sand or just use liquid sandpaper (paint deglosser). Two coats of a decent quality primer should cover it. If you are worried about the stain coming through, you can use Zinsser BIN shellac based primer. It is excellent stuff. It is very thin though so I would probably try something like Zinsser 123.

Depends what the stain is. I thinka strong magnolia gloss usually covers ejaculate.

    Hope that helps
