For a 10 gallon i would only have 2, i kept my 3 in a 20 gallon. Dont get any less then 2 hermit crabs do better with a friend. I always used a 7 gallon for molting. The best place to get them is where ever you prefer, and the price ranges greatly! I've seen some for $0.50- $5.

It depends on how big the tank is. Normally you would want your hermit crabs to grow to the largest size which is a Jumbo, requiring 5 gallon each.

Normally, if you get it at pet stores, it will be a medium to teeny size, therefore requiring up to 2-3 gallons each.

So, if you're not planning to upgrade, go for 2 hermit crabs. But if you want to upgrade, go for 3 up to 5.

Normally local pet stores will have them. They should cost about 5$-10$ each for purple pinchers.

5 gallon tank is perfect for molting.
