What are opinions on the TV series Dexter?

I have watched all the episodes of Breaking Bad and Games Of Thrones online. I enjoyed Breaking Bad but didn't like Games Of Thrones. I have started watching the pilot episode of Dexter and it has some very graphic and gruesome images. The same with CSI. I never really could get into those types of series with explicit content every week. Unless the stories and characters are well liked and the stories are plausible.

Is the Dexter series the same or do the stories on all episodes continue to be gory, gruesome and uninteresting?

I didn't find the main character to be interesting. Nor was I entertained by the entire episode. A serial killer using his skills to kill serial killers that deserve it. The psychological profile of this main character is not believable or challenging.

You wouldn't want to send a paedophile to kill paedophiles.

Any person that decides to kill those who commit such atrocities does not make them any better than the person who kills. Death does not discriminate. This is just my humble opinion.

Update:

I have to admit that I now like GoT as a series. I just needed to catch up on watching all the episodes and get to know all the characters. It is a great series regardless of the explicit violence, gore, nudity, and profanity. Some shows need it to give a sense of reality.

The show is constantly interspersed with narration from Dexter himself. This helps you get into the mind of Dexter. We hear the reasoning for what he does and why he does it. Its almost watching the action and reading the mind of Dexter himself. The narration I think is vital, without it perhaps this show wouldn't work like it does. We also get large snippets of flashback to Dexter's childhood, some of which he is seeing freshly as much as we are because he is blacking some of it out. Dexter's father Harry has had a huge influence on Dexter's life and we can see just how deep his tentacles have got into Dexter's sub conscious. The psychological study of Dexter is very detailed and it's done solely by himself.

One of the best I've seen. Stories are different.

it's a good show and it's very entertaining. it is not realistic however if one gives it some real thought. the guy has well over 100+ kills and rarely does anyone put 2 and 2 together.

what makes the show entertaining is that michael c hall is a likeable guy. with that said, he does a good job of playing a sociopath (people that really have no redeeming qualities). the show is about combining opposite spectrums of the human psyche. that is what makes the show unique and worthwhile.

the voice over works because we realize this fictional character has many likeable traits even though he moonlights as a killer.

in the real world, killers don't do voice over. what i mean by that is they rarely if ever analyze their actions. true psychopaths or sociopaths are disconnected from people for the most part. they are cold and other people are simply their to be manipulated for their pleasure. true weirdos kill and then eat a taco. they don't ramble on in their head about the philosophical implications.

with dexter, he's a true hybrid; a very convincing enigma.

the poor chap is cold, but wants and needs human connections. the guy is brilliant and this helps. he has such a high level of conceptual awareness that informs himself where he is lacking as a person.

we root for his progress. sometimes a step forward is made, sometimes 2 steps back, etc etc. very tough moral situations arise, and dexter does what we might do if we too were one part good and one part psycho killer.

Reading a good booklet provides a richer experience and can leave you with memories that can last years. Television is only educational if you are watching a documentary or something similar

I've always loved to read. But I'd be lying easily said I didn't also enjoy TV. Throughout the day it is just a reserve usually.
