How to gain healthy weight?

I am under weight for my age group and I am tired of people making fun of me for being "too skinny", "twiggy", "and anorexic". I do not have an eating disorder and I would just like to gain a healthy amount of weight without eating a bunch of crappy foods like potato chips and such. What are some tips on gaining weight in a healthy way? And i know a lot of people try so hard to loose weight and that I "should be thankful" for having the body I do. I am healthy but I am not happy with he way my body looks. Thanks in advance everyone!

PS. Just for the information, I am 16 years old, 5'3, and I weigh around 98 pounds.

Lets look at the facts and then you can decide what you want to do.

You are a 16 year old, female 5' feet 3 inches in height, and you weigh around 98 pounds.

In order to maintain your current body weight you need to eat a minimum of 1,918.5 calories per day.

One pound of either fat or muscle weight requires an increase of 3,500 calories, this can be in a day or distributed over some time period like a year.

Lets say you want to increase your body weight by 7%. That would increase your weight to 104.86 pounds.

That is going to require 24,010 over your current food intake. If we distribute that over a year you will need to increase your daily calorie intake by about 66 calories per day.

If you want to speed this up, lets say increase your weight by 7% in 6 months you simply double the increase of 66 calories extra per day to 132 calories per day over the 1,918.5 needed to maintain your current weight.

Why this is a problem is craving for food is increased with weight increase. So it isn't likely that you will just get to 105 pounds and then stop increasing. The additional 66 calories per day to get you to gain 5 pounds over a year doesn't sound bad. But a steady increase of 7% will double your weight in just 10 years.

Bu the time you are 26 years old you will weigh 196 pounds if you just eat 66 calories per day more than you need to maintain your body weight.

As you get older you are probably going to gain some weight anyway. Wanting to rush that is a bad idea, and it is probably based on some feeling of inadequacy. I can assure you that when people who weigh more than they should say something negative, even jokingly to people who do not have weight problems, deep down those people would trade places with you in a minute if they could.

Be happy with your self if you can, but if you can't- then above is the formula, you can gain all the weight you want. It is just that it is literally 10 times as hard to get it back off.

a large egg is between 80 and 90 calories. If you eat an additional two eggs per day you will gain about 5 pounds in around 4 months.

If your family is also petite/naturally thin, then it could just be that it's your genetics (I'm the exact same way). I definitely understand wanting a little more meat on your bones, though. I would definitely stick to healthy foods, but try to eat a little more (not pigging out all the time, just snacks if you feel hungry). Going to the gym may increase your muscle mass, although it might also burn any fat that you do have. Honestly, I would try to see yourself for who you are: a small young woman who has a killer body-without being anorexic or bulimic!
