Is 32MB of VRAM realistic?

Hi,

I recently got a Lenovo yoga 11s for schoolwork. At school I often use Microsoft office programs, Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, and after effects.

I read somewhere that the yoga 11s only has 32mb of VRAM, which concerns me because that seems like a puny amount. Is that true and if it is, will it be able to support what I am doing?

There are two models on the page. They have the same specs, just different colours, if it makes a difference, I got the grey one.

I have a custom build more powerful rig at home, I just want something convenient and lightweight. Therefore I am not taking suggestions for other laptops instead.

Thanks

Update:

I know it means video ram, not RAM/memory.

I just want to know if the amount of video ram can handle the moderate amount of textures I will be using in Photoshop and after effects, and not resort to using page file and becoming very slow.

Thanks,

Michael

Update 2:

My build at home consists of a i7 3930K, GTX 670, 16GB of RAM, and 1tb worth of ssd in raid 0.

Is there any way that I can allocate any more RAM to the integrated graphics through the bios?

The Yoga 11s uses Intel integrated graphics, which might not be powerful enough for your programs. Changing your VRAM allocation won't help anything.

Photoshop will probably run without OpenGL features, which makes the interface a little clunky. After Effects might not run with suitable speed.

Meanwhile, your other computer's graphics card likely has 2GB of dedicated VRAM, which it doesn't have to share with the rest of the system. It also has a much more capable GPU.

32MB is just tbe base amount of the system RAM that's used as VRAM (this tablet has intergrated graphics). If you're running an app that requires more than 32MB of VRAM the system will allocate more system RAM as VRAM. This is done dynamically and without any input from the user.

That wont be enough for anything like photoshop with video editing and such, at least not at a good framerate. Since you already have a build at your house, I am supposing that would be much more powerful, though I am not aware of its specifications. 32 mbs of vram would be enough to do a very limited amount of work.
