Does all acupuncture hurt?
I stopped going a little while back because getting the needles inserted was worse than anything I already had. Most of the time, it felt like I was being stabbed, and in the electric acupuncture, attaching the wires felt like it was tugging the needles in and from my skin. Several times, when the head (and especially the forehead) were part of the treatment, I had to bite my tongue and claw into my arms to distract myself as it felt like it hit the bone. The one time I was face up, and a needle went into my wrist, I was in immense pain for the entire session. Apparently, the guy was trained in China and had a lot of experience and certifications, so my confidence is shaken here. Is it worth trying again for insomnia, depression, and "intestinal distress", or is my experience the typical?
Mild depressions are metabolic. These are the "bummed out" depressive people, not a serious condition. There have been studies that say acupuncture does work for certain things, but only with continued treatment. I guess my experience was a little too typical. Guess it's off to find a serious of medications.

Sam, my advice would be, find a "toothpick acupuncturist" They use toothpicks instead of needles and get exactly the same placebo effect as getting stabbed with needles.( but no pain ) http://www.usnews.com/science/articles/2009/05/12/...

Not typical but not unusual.
You may as well just stop the treatment anyway - all the research shows acupuncture is nothing more than an elaborate placebo. It's premise has no basis in reality either - there are no meridians and there is no magic Qi.
Acupuncture was developed by pre-scientific cultures which had no model of how the human body works. There is no place for it in modern health care.

Insomnia and depression are metabolic syndrome problems. Insomnia and depression is caused due to low carbohydrate and sugar consumption. Search internet for side effects of Atkin Diet. Find more information at
