What is the word or term for people who wait for storms and then light fires to lure ships onto reefs ?

I know it isnt piracy. Its been in movies, possibly The Shipping News? wherr people lured ships to places to founder and break up in the storms so they could salvage what washed ashore, or went out lookin gfor it in the water

    " The Most Dangerous Game."

A short story, by Richard Cornell.

You were probably forced to read it, in High School.

People who take advantage of wrecked ships are called "Shipwreckers." sometimes with one word and sometimes two.

The idea of lighting fires seems to be an unproven legend

Is it wreckers? I have no clue but in elementary school I read a book about that. It was called the wreckers. Great book!
