Car Chirpy sound only under acceleration in gear - Toyota Vitz?
Hi all,
So my Toyota Vitz makes a 'chirpy' sound when under acceleration/strain in gear. in Neutral nothing. when travelling at a constant speed nothing and when gentle acceleration nothing.
When accelerating hard, just of idle revs and I think when cold is when its most exagurated.
Similar sound to this:

Any ideas - it doesn't sound like a belt slipping squeek its even more 'chirpy' than that video....

It only makes the sound while accelerating under load -- it's "pinging", or "preignition". Run the fuel tank almost empty, then put in 10 gallons of higher grade fuel -- maybe 92 octane instead of standard 87. The pinging almost certainly will go away, proving that pinging is the issue. Solve by either having ignition timing retarded a few degrees, by putting a cooler range spark plugs, or just don't push it so hard. Or keep buying the better fuel.
