If you quit your job, there will be no attachment from your boss or company. What about the President or PM if they resign? Should they have anything to do with your country (as your company)?

Nixon resigned under pressure and wasn't penalized in terms of what he got (compared to what he would have gotten if he'd managed to stay in office).
PMs resign all the time, I seem to recall. Whoever the new party leader happened to be would become Prime Minister if the former one quit before an election.
