Why does this power brick have an ethernet port on it?

I was looking at my power brick that is under my desk and noticed that it has an ethernet in and ethernet out port on it, here's a picture:

    That is not a power brick (that converts AC to low DC), it is a Surge Protector. If it is RJ45 (fits ethernet connector) if might be to protect a network from power surges. But it is more likely RJ11 to protect a phone line for dial up modem or fax machine from lighting strikes to phone wires.

    That is not an ethernet cable connection, that is a telephone. It may "filter" any background "noise."
