I want to become a cosmetologist or makeup artist... but....?

I want to become a cosmetologist or a makeup artist but i'm scared to see my parent's reaction to what i want to become. I am a girl also a middle child(Age 15), i have an older sister who's 19, and a young brother who's 11. My sister told my parents that she wanted to become an Optometrist, and they were very proud of her because she chose a career in the medical field. She's currently going to college to fulfill her dream to become a Optometrist. My brother (age 11) is thinking of becoming a meteorologist, so basically my sister and little brother have very high more reasonable careers for their future. Every time my parent's ask what we want to do for our future, they say "Optometrist" or "Meteorologist" , as for me? I say 'i don't know yet' because i don't think my parents would/could take me seriously if i said i wanted to become a cosmetologist or makeup artist and they wouldn't be supportive of my decision. Please help? I've also considered being a therapist/counselor because i like to help people and i think my parents would be supportive of that, but i'd much rather prefer to become a cosmetologist or beauty artist. I understand i have many more years to pick my decision, but some advice would definitely help and will have me thinking about my future! Thanks!

You don't need to hide it from them, and condition yourself because of what they may think, because they may even accept it quicker than you expect.

At the same time you can explain to the that becoming a make up artist or a cosmetologist is a very appreciated work with high demand where you can make good money and a great career.

If your parents give you any negative feedback, just ask them if they wouldn't be proud if one day you would become a great cosmotologist an make up artist in some Hollywood studios and work with great celebrities.

Hello I know of a School from Canada the offers Mobile Makeup Artistry Classes.

They are the only Mobile Makeup School that travels.

This is better then an on-line program as the instuctors are there to help assist you in person.

The program covers everything you need to fast track your career as a certified makeup artist.

    Beauty and Bridal

    Film And Fashion

    They also offer SPX classes.

All completed in 1 week of intensive training.

It's a great course if you learn quickly.

    Highly reccommended.

My oldest brother is a CPA (math major) my other brother is in construction and me I'm 27 dropped out of 4 different colleges 8 majors and have made it clear I have no interest in school or a career. I'm a joke to my family however to my friends I'm a genius. I go to beauty schools to get my hair done once a year for fun and spend the whole time instructing the girl doing my hair and then the teachers beg me to join because I seem to know everything so far but I just don't want to.

So now I offer advice on here and my parents pray I get off my *** and get a job.

Moral of this story A JOB is better than NO JOB

If not for cosmetologists who would do the hair and makeup at weddings and in the movies and for models in photography .... While you may not be saving the world you are helping someone feel better about themselves and that's just as important.

Okay i had the same problem. im 16 years old and an aspiring makeup artist. i am currently taking classes to get my cosmetology license. at first my parents were so strict about becoming a pharmacist. i did my work but i hated it. i showed them slowly how much passion i had for makeup and art because they had never seen or even cared about my artistic/ creative talents. they were amazed and now they are okay with my future goals. try hinting to them slowly hoe passionate you are about makeup!!! good luck <3 i totally feel you
