Can a Pitcher replace a DH when he's pulled from the mound?

If the manager removes the Pitcher, can the Pitcher replace the DH (assuming he's a good hitter) in the line-up much the same way as he could move to a position in the field?

Thanks!

Update:

Not removed from the game. Can the Pitcher be inserted as a DH as opposed to say put out in RF or at 1B? I've seen switches before. Lasorda used to do it with Valenzuela to get favorable match-ups. But, I am wondering if the pitcher can replace the DH? Since, technically he is batting for the pitcher, would you pull the DH and have the pitcher hit for him? If so, can you replace the Pitcher with a reliever but keep the starting pitcher in the game as the DH?

Hopefully that makes sense?

Thanks.

No. You can't stash the pitcher in the DH spot, subbing for the pitcher, with the intent of bringing the pitcher back. Per rule 6.10(a)(10), if the game pitcher bats for the DH, the team loses the DH, and the pitcher is still the game pitcher. You could then sub in another pitcher, but you're still substituting for the pitcher, and the new pitcher would have to bat.

You can move the pitcher to another position in the field (not DH), then have him move back to pitcher, but only once per inning, per rule 3.03. However, the DH is never "in the field" so your scenario isn't legal.

No. This is just like moving the DH into the field, and then replacing him with a defensive substitution.

The new pitcher would take the DH's spot in the lineup if you desired to remove the original DH. The original pitcher would be removed from the game and ineligible to return.

Yes, if the manager was very stupid. Once you eliminate the DH in the game, you cannot replace him, the pitcher MUST bat from then on out.

    Nope.

The pitcher is just like any other player who is replaced in a game.

Once he is taken out, he is out of the game.
