Question for the Aussies! Do you like Bernard Tomic and why was he getting booed at the Australian Open?

On TV I saw that Bernard Tomic was getting booed when he retired from his match against Nadal? Is he not popular over there? I saw him at Wimbledon last year and he looks a really good young player! I know there were some young players called Kyrgios and Kokkinakis who played very well in the Ozz open last week! But why do people not seem so keen on Tomic? Thanks for your help :)

I think generally the Australian public see Tomic as someone with immense talent but doesn't put the hard work in.

A lot of people disliked Hewitt for carrying on sometimes but I think everyone respected him and his "never give up" attitude.

I think it's Tomic's attitude that turns Aussies off. We still like him though, well I can't speak for everyone but I think generally we do.

In that match where he pulled out I think he was simply boo'd for giving up, we want to see athletes push through the pain and show what it means to them.

Why did he rip his strapping off near the start of the match if he was injured anyway? It was strange.

Well, I'm all for Tomic on the court but he doesn't have the best track record outside it which may play a part. But from I can gather, the fans were expecting a great match and thought it was unaustralien to retire, or give up as they saw it. I'm not sure if you've heard but the next day scans revealed his injury could have been much worse if he played on. But I think people are expecting too much from him and are forgetting he's only 21 years old.

The match was over before it even started by BT's withdrawal. I would have like to see it however I would not want anyone to risk a more serious injury by playing on because the 'crowd wanted a match'. Plus he has had some issues with his dad's being in the limelight. I would have liked RN to get a workout..

I'd imagine this was because the punters wanted to see A MATCH. I didn't see this one, so don't know the circumstances, but also maybe they felt he'd whimped out?
