She was possibly using drugs during the divorce, her husband had to file a restraining order to keep her away from him and the daughters. Knowing how family courts work she would have had to do something pretty bad for the judge to grant a non-biological father full custody and a restraining order, something more than just a bit of weed or even coke, she'd have had to been extremely abusive or dealing drugs out of the home or something.
