Girldfriend has a cat dander allergy, but wants a Chinchilla...will a Chinchilla effect her the same as a cat?

My girlfriend has always wanted a cat, but she is allergic to cat dander. One of her friends was telling her about their Chinchilla and my girlfriend has always wanted a pet. Will a Chinchilla upset and of her allergies caused from cat dander?

Not necessarily. Dander is different between different animals. People can be allergic to one but not others. The way to find out is for her to be around a chinchilla and find out.

That depends on her. She should be exposed to one and their supplies before buying one. It's just not fair for the animal to be moved around to start to care for someone only to be tossed away. They bathe in volcanic dust, not water, and require a large supply of timothy hay. You also might need aspen or kiln dried pine bedding. Check these things before considering a chinchilla, and do some research. Chinchillas are much more difficult than cats to take care of, and very very expensive exotic animals. You will need an exotic vet, and about $1000 for a proper chinchilla setup.
