Is this behavior normal?

A lot of the times if my parents are late coming home, I get really worried. Like if they're an hour late I'll start to get anxious, but like today my mom was 3 hours late and I started crying and convinced myself she had been in a car accident and died... It's actually kinda funny that I convinced myself of this now that I know she's safe haha.. Anyway, is that normal? I know it's not like "oh my god you need help" bad, but I just want to know if a lot of people get worried like I do because no one else in my house seemed worried like I was.

Update:

Good to know I'm not the only one! I'm not surprised that it's probably anxiety either because I used to get frequent, random panic attacks years ago and I was very anxious back then too... Thanks for answering!

    Syd,

This is common for a lot of people ! I am the same way . Not quite as extensive as your situation - but for example if my mother is late from work, I worry that she may have gotten into a car accident.

Or if I am turning in a paper, I get worried that maybe my professor lost the paper.

Or I worry when I am driving that my tire will blow out.

Or I worry that someone will break into the house.

haha, so you see - you are not alone !

One thing is to not get caught up in it. It's normal and fine to worry - but don't make your self sick or emotional unless there is an actual reason. So in the example of your mom not coming home - I understand you being worried since she was 3 hours late - but unless you actually get a phone call or some notification that something has happened why worry yourself sick ?

I know it's not necessarily something you can control - but in situations when you get paranoid and worried, think in your head "ok, I am only assuming - i don't know for a fact that is has happend or even will happen" .. etc etc

I used to worry every single time I drove a car, if id get a flat tire. I would remind mtself every 5 min that my tire could go flat and hold onto the steering wheel tighter.. I couldn't help those thoughts.. but I stopped them by saying afterward "so far i have yet to get one and if I do, thinking about it and worry about it constantly doesn't change anything"..

So just try to calm yourself down by realizing you are worrying and it is your concern that is making you think that something bad has happened. Until there is an actual concrete sign that something has gone wrong - worry but don't worry yourself sick. You'll just go crazy worrying for no reason.

Sometimes there is a reason to worry for sure. But only if there's a concrete reason to worry - try not to worry as much.

You're normal! And I am relieved to find someone who shares my similar worries and paranoia haha

    Best wishes,

    Stunnah

    you are not alone I myself do the same thing and let's just say that I have anxiety but as for you I am not sure some: restlessness, headaches and nausea, difficulty of breathing, trouble sleeping {fatigue}

trembling or shaking. there are also different type of anxiety too. but if you used to have it in the past, there might be some way if can come back or still be there I had mine for five years :( and it's annoying especially when I get a panic or anxiety attack those are worse if you're worried or concern about it I recommend go and talk to your parents and then having your mom take you to go and see a doctor. you may have what its called is a Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

Source(s): good luck I have it myself and its not fun :( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generalized_anxiety_d...

I think its normal. We worry about people, because we love them... and we're afraid of losing them. I get worried too when my mom comes home late. She also gets worried when I get home late, without even sending her an sms as to why I'll get home late... something like that. Well, all I can say is that its natural. If you don't get worried about someone, that means you don't care if they disappear from your life....... which is BAD.

I do the same thing! My doctor said I have mild anxiety, maybe you should talk with your doctor? :)
