I dyed my hair red a few months ago. And one thing you need to keep in mind about red hair is that it washes out quicker than other colors,so use a shampoo and conditioner that has no sulfates and is color safe!! I also recommend not washing your hair everyday and use dry shampoo. I have used Purology and they actually just came out with a shampoo and conditioner that is specially made to keep that red in your hair. They also have great dry shampoo. You can get it at Ulta. If you want it bright red you are going to have to gradually lighten your hair so it will show and be "bright" like you want it to. Don't just bleach it all in one day because that will destroy your hair. I would dye your hair a shade lighter every few months so your hair has time to repair itself and if you have split ends make sure to trim that! and then when it gets light enough you can finally put red in it. And it will show off like you want it to. If you keep it brown and try and dye it red it won't be bright.

I'm sure that the way you'd need to do it is by bleaching your hair to a light blonde and leaving your hair to rest for a couple days to a week. Then, using a bright red box dye to go over the blonde to get a bright red. Buy a bright red colour box dye from a more expensive line and make sure it comes with all the things you need: gloves, dye, developer etc. Make sure you put vaseline around your hair line and anywhere where the dye might reach and stain your skin. If you're looking for a deeper colour you could simply dye over the brown, getting a dark red and no bleach damage.

To get more instructions on how to dye your hair bright red the best way possible, you could look up detailed instructions on google on how to dye your hair bright red.

Going to a good, trusted salon may be a better option so that your hair doesn't get over bleached or come out the wrong colour.

Just a warning that bleaching your hair can damage it badly and make it very dry and crunchy if left in for too long or if your hair is weak or damaged already but good luck :)

I have medium-darkish brown hair and I once got a cheap bottle of red to try, it gave my hair a redder tint in the sunlight but otherwise still looked plain brown. So a bleach kit will definitely help, a more auburn type red will be easier to maintain when your roots start to show, but if you want a more "irish" or unnatural stop-sign type red it'll be a little trickier since you'll have to bleach your roots before touching them up with red.
