Could Atheists and the Religious find common ground through science?

Well it's gonna be tough for atheists to become Christians through science although I would imagine with all the discoveries that are being made in quantum physics and such it will become more and more difficult to deny that there is an intelligence which permeates the whole universe.

Would a dimension actually explain such a thing though. The gods I've heard about are omnipotent, omniscient, benevolent beings. While the universe may have a place where they could exist, the question remains do they? On the other hand, we might reach a point in our existence as a species where we encounter other beings enormously more knowledgeable and powerful than ourselves, but would those creatures be gods? I don't have any more interest in worshiping a creature that runs around going "nanu nanu" anymore than I have in worshiping an unproven god.

People have been on about spiritual dimensions since at least the days of the Sumerians or the ancient Egyptians. Not once in those thousands of years has any solid evidence emerged that there is a spiritual dimension at all.

Spiritual life in central America led to the almost daily practice of human sacrifice. In Carthage, it led to infant human sacrifice. Among the ancient Hebrews, it led to the "cure' of "leprosy" with bird blood. In modern USA, it led to the neglect of childhood illnesses in favour of prayers, and the claim by a pastor that when the child died, the parent's faith was not strong enough. in that particular family, there has been another child death from neglect of medical treatment in favour of prayer. Just recently, it has led to the murder of two children and the assault on two others by two women in an exorcism. This sort of thing happens in the USA a few times every year. in west Africa, it has led to the torture and murder of children accused of being witches by Christian Pentecostalists.

It led to four airliners being hijacked on 11 September 2001. It leads to the widespread acceptance of long refuted claims by young Earth creationists. It leads to the obvious scams of Scientology.

There is a trail of wrecked ambitions, broken marriages, delusion, fanaticism, impoverishment, busted families, fraud,. murders, mutilations and death by "exorcisms" etc left by those who claim a "spiritual dimension.

Given these facts, there does not seem to be much that can said for a spiritual dimension.

I believe in things that are real.

We know they're real, because we have evidence for them.

If science finds evidence of a god...then I'll believe there is a god.

But since there WOULD be tons of evidence of the xian god (or any other god man has invented) IF they existed...and there has never been any....it's safe to say none of those gods exist.

If you are referring to the String hypothesis, in which multiple dimensions could exist, I guess I could concede that a deity exists in one of those planes, but that would also require monotheists to admit there could be more the one god

There is no common ground for the atheist and the theist!

To seek such is to lower our standards and or to have false expectations.

That happened through quantum physics where top scientist now know that there has to be an "Intelligent Ultimate Observer" who is manipulating all matter .

Yes they could if everyone would come to the realization that there are three Earth ages.
