Is there a Pokémon game that's actually challenging?
I played the first game again, for the first time in like 12 years, and the first time I've ever done it without cheats or glitches.
I thought that would make it harder and it didn't.
I spent the whole game leveling up a team. 4 Pokemon in the 40s, a level 50 Raichu, and a level 60 Blastoise. And then I just raped the Elite 4 with nothing but my Blastoise and a Raichu that was 5 levels lower than anything in the Elite 4.
Which makes all the googling I did about good movesets and good teams to go against the elite 4 useless. All you need is 1 Pokemon to beat the elite 4, and you don't even have to rare candy cheat it up to level 100.
Is there any pokemon game where this isn't the case? A challenging game where you actually need a team? Or they are all just the same

I think the others are missing the point. You want a pokemon game where you do not need an artificial challenge system to feel challenged. As a pokemon junkie I have wanted the same for years now. But we have to remember the games are scaled so anyone from the pure novice to a die hard PKM fan can pick up and play.
Lately us older fans have been getting a lot of fanservice from Pokemon: The Origins to the kanto starters in the newer games, so I am hopeful we will see something 'challenging' soon. I would love a game like Gale of Darkness come out and give pokemon fans a real challenge.

If you are finding the games too easy, do a Nuzlocke challenge. This can be done with any pokemon game.

well the sequel 5th gen games both have challenge modes if you haven't tried that. could go with nuzlocke challenge as first person recommended. games were never meant to be all that challenging in the first place. it was designed mainly for children lol.

Galvakza got to it first- a Nuzlocke challenge is the way to go. Look it up if you need details.
