Is 7000 too much for a custom guitar?
I am a fairy good musician, and I would really like to own a nice acoustic guitar. I really want to start a band in college, but regardless, I really want to own a nice instrument that I can play for years. I have really been looking toward Lichty Guitars. Jay Lichty makes these by hand, and his shop is local. I would be able to go to his workshop and discuss with him every detail of the guitar from the tonewoods to the inlays. His instruments have great reviews, and he not only builds these fine instruments, but he plays and demos them afterward. I know that Martin, Taylor, and Gibson, etc. make nice guitars, but I like the idea of owning something that is custom designed to fit ME, and having an instrument that is hand made by a single individual, as well as supporting the local economy. I have about 7000 dollars that I can spend on a nice guitar, and with the quote for the instrument, I am looking at about 6700 dollars. here is his website link: http://lichtyguitars.com/ and he also has some demos of his work on Youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watchv=KFw62kTp_wM&feature=... His work is really amazing! Do you guys think that this would be a good investment??

I have a Mirage guitar works built by Paul Gobat, awesome guitar, But I really don't play it for fear of damaging it and the fact you cant get another, But I do lean to odd ball guitars, my two go to acoustics are an old Tacoma Dm9c which you can replace if you look hard enough, and a Seagull Entourage which are quite common and still being produced , it just has a Roland GK-3 pick up installed which runs through a Roland GR-55 guitar synth, yea that's odd, Oh but the things this guitar can do! and if I do destroy it I can always remove the pick up and stick it on another guitar with the same results. working guitar is the key here, not a prized case queen that was made especially for you, that's reserved for the ultra rich performers that could care less what a guitar costs. There's just too many production guitars that kick butt, you just need to find the one that suits you. $7k is a waste of money for something you want to gig with on a regular basis,

It's a fair price for a custom guitar. Is it a good investment? No as you will never get your money back out of it and you don't need a 7K guitar even if you are a pro. I would get it if you can afford it and want it but not as an "investment". If you want to invest get stocks, bonds or precious metals and so on.
I have a 6K bass and had a 4k guitar but I play professionally and can deduct it from my taxes. It helped me justify the cost. LOL

Way too much. Even though James Hetfield's signature explorers never sold for even close to 7K.........I have a JH-2 number 58 of 200 made, it easily surpasses the worth of 7 thousand bucks. Beware that guy is trying to rip you off my friend.

You are a fairy good musician? Interesting. You can get great guitars for $2,000; why spend $7,000? You could have $5,000 for something else. If it is a collector's item and you really want it, it's up to you to decide what it's worth.
