The badges are meant to encourage active participation. If you have a Top Contributor badge once, then you need to keep participating, otherwise it will get taken back.

Hope it helps you understand :)

According to Y!A A "Top Contributor" is a member of the Yahoo Answers community who has shown that they are knowledgeable in a certain category. Each user can be a top contributor in three categories. You may see some with 4, but that's hard work. You earn it or lose it depending on your recent participation in a certain section. The more you contribute, the more chance there is that you will get a TC badge. The guess is that you need at least 10% Best Answers, 40 or 50 a week to keep the badge.in your category.Yahoo has never disclosed this secret. It appears on Monday and also will disappear on Monday if you don't maintain your percentage. Just make sure you answer as many questions as you can and try to give good answers.so you will be chosen as Best Answer. There are some on here that are only on the second level with the badge. Pick a category that you are knowledgeable in and go for it. There is no badges for Jokes & Riddles or Polls & Surveys categories. When you are on the lower levels, you can only answer so many questions a day, so make them count. Don't go off on other categories. Some vote for their own Answer to up the chance of getting a TC badge. Hope you enjoy the site and be sure to read the TOS and CG'S so you don't get violations
