What is the best long-burning container candle wax or blend?
We have some clean empty quart-size mason jars and are thinking about making some long-burning emergency candles with them. What would be the best kind of wax or wax blend to use for this? Dye and scent throw are not concerns, as long as the candle burn doesn't smell bad. Leaving residue on the side of the container is also not a big concern - if we have to use these we'll either toss or remake them.
Higher melt points generally make for longer-lasting candles, but I know you don't want to go too high with container candles. What would be an optimum wax or blend? What additives (Stearic Acid, Vybar, etc.) should I use? Advice on the kind of wick to use with the wax would also be very helpful.

There are several different ones available that would work.
There are also a wide variety of wicks that would work also.
The slowest burning wax is Beeswax, but it is ALSO very expensive, and NOT really good for container candles pure.
Since you are NOT using dyes or scents, you don't need Stearic or Vybar, etc.
I use "Ecosoya 135" myself for container candles.
Quart mason jars are approximately 3" so, for longer lasting candles I would use a flat, braided, wick of about 18 ply, or the equivalent.
Personally, I make "emergency" candles in 1" by 8" with paraffin wax and 6/0 wicks. (7 of these will fit in a 1 Qt., "Ziploc", freezer bag perfectly.) I also made the mold I use with a 1" dowel, 3" x 3" plywood, and Silicon Rubber with a 2" PVC outer cover!
Hope this helps
