Defense wins championships?

Do we need any further example than this year's Super Bowl? The best offense ever in the NFL was beat by a solid, consistent, and basic defensive scheme. The Seahawks did nothing flashy, nothing showy, and really didn't try to hide what they were going to do defensively. Their players simply played a good solid game. What does this mean for the future of the NFL? What will happen to all of the blitz-happy defenses with funky defensive fronts? Is the balance of power in the NFL swinging back to the defense?

Balance of power is not going to switch back to the defenses in the NFL. Flashy defenses and even more flashy offenses are here to stay. Fans who should have learned the lesson that defense depends more on having good talent at all 11 positions on the field will not accept what they just saw. The flashy offenses are more exciting to watch and talk about. The thing is keep your eyes on teams entering the playoffs with the better defenses and solid offenses. They are the ones most likely to win the games including the Super Bowl. If you are a betting maybe take advantage of other peoples misconceptions of what wins playoff games, :).

Teams win championships, complete teams. They can have a dominate defense but they better be able to run and pass the ball on offense and Seattle had just enough as did the 2000 Ravens and '85 Bears.

DEFENSE never win anything. By its pure meaning, it's like holding back, try not to lose.

Offense is on the other hand, offending, attacking to win.

Now, put it this way, if you are an emperor and you want to expand your land, do you defense to win or you attack others to gain land?

Back to NFL, offense always wins because they SCORE more points than their opponent, defense HELP team to halt other offenses.

Have you ever seen games that defense unit score more points than offense team?

Their defensive players were also clearly better athletes than Denver's.
