i have a rear projection Mitsubishi dlp tv problem lamp? power supply? please someone help?

Hi i have a dlp mitsubishi wd73727 73inch. When i bought it the bulb was visibly blown. it uses a 150 watt osram bulb. i tried ti plug in a 120 watt bulb from a 63 inch mitsubishi that wad similar and had the same connectors but doesn't fit in the lamp housing. tv powers up i hear all the fans and color wheel spinning and it clicks 3 or 4 times and then the lamp comes on for a second and shuts off. after that i get a solid red led light on the front and the error code is 34 ( lamp abnormalities ) do you think its just the bulb. do i need the correct bulb? I checked all the capasitors and the weren't swollen or busted and the fuses i found were ok. please help me

You sound like you have a pretty good tech background and makes me wonder why you are even asking this question with as much knowledge as you have. I would certainly try the correct bulb. You said the one you tried doesn't fit in the housing, the housing may have additional sensors showing the bulb to be correctly in place or grounded. Good luck. By the way, I am only submitting this out of my curiosity about this q and a section on yahoo. Pretty cool. Think I will use it next time I have a question.

If the bulb is not exactly the right one for the TV it will trigger the red light and shut down. Mitsubishi has a common problem/design flaw. The housing for the bulb came with a fine screen on it where the blower fan blows air into the housing to cool the bulb so it does not blow. If you don't see the screen scratch the area that lines up with the blower port using a tooth pick. The screen is too fine and house dust plugs it up. They modified the housing and now they use a plate with 1/8" holes in it rather than a screen. Go on line and complain. They usually give in and send you a new bulb and housing.
