Can't open saved Office documents?

All of a sudden, I cannot open any Microsoft Office documents that I have saved on my computer. Even if I create a new document, save it, and close it, I am not able to open it a minute later. A dialog box comes up that says, "Publisher (or Word, etc) cannot find the file you specified. The next dialog box will let you browse to locate the file on your hard drive or floppy disk." I tried un-installing and re-installing Office, but that didn't work. PLEASE HELP! Thanks in advance!

Update:

I have had these files saved on my desktop for months and haven't had any problems opening them before...

Update 2:

I was reading about error codes with this subject. I'm not sure if it helps, but the dialog box has an error code 1100174. Thanks again!

Update 3:

NO documents are opening and I have already tried repairing and re-installing Office....

Have you gone onto Microsoft and used their Fix It tool?

It's not brilliant but seems to get the job done.

If not, you may have to uninstall Office then get a Registry Cleaner to clean up the unused Entries (that may be broken) - THEN reinstall it.

(Better to di it that way as messing with the Registry yourself is NEVER a good idea - you can muck the whole PC up).

Go to the control panel and click on "Programs and Features" then scroll down the list until you find Word and click on it. Then it should give you an option to Remove/Modify/Repair. Use the tool in there to repair the program.

If that doesnt work, you are going to have to re-install word:

Please try to uninstall Microsoft office 2010 from program list in Programs and features. It will appear there with most recent date of installation. After uninstall of that application, Microsoft office Starter should work as before the update. This will not uninstall your office starter. Thanks
