the red. (or yellow) wax covering gouda or edam cheeses: is this bees wax? color added?

Ive saved up quite a lot, washed of course. I was thinking of melting, adding resin, to make encaustic painting medium. Thanks.

    It could be bees wax, but these days it is usually food grade paraffin.

    If you see the ingredients on a cheese wax pack, it’s a formulation of paraffin and microcrystalline wax. And food grade coloring is also added.

    No, it's paraffin wax, and color is added.
