Can't decide between being a kickboxer or Skateboarder?

I've been told to pursue both but I understand that in order to achieve one of these goals I have to dedicate all my time to said goal. I am 18 years old and in my first year in college for computer engineering but I really don't want to pursue that as a career.

Now I absolutely love skateboarding (I've been doing it for 5 years) and i'm rather good at it. I go outside to practice in hopes that one day I will be sponsored and enter contests.

However recently I've seemed to pick up a knack for martial arts and I really, really enjoy kickboxing/boxing at my local gym and wanted to consider it as a career. For the past year I've been training hard for it and entering competitions that my class goes too.

I want computer engineering to be a back up plan, but as far as a main goal, i'm stuck between the two things I love. Which one should I choose to pursue? This is a very hard choice for me to make.

It's your life but I think engineering should be your main goal. Do you have any idea how many people have that exact same dream as you do? How many people that want to be a skate boarder or a boxer or a MMA fighter? Millions and millions more. You are nothing but a drop in that ocean.

I just don't understand why everyone who starts martial arts these days has to make it a career? Can't you just go and train, have some fun and meet cool people? Why must it be a career? I'll tell you right now that you are not good. Why do I know that? Because you haven't put in the time necessary to be decent, let alone good.

But hey, it's your life. I'm just some dude who's bored at the hospital. You do as you wish.

Actually does the money really matter?

The guy down there is asking you, why do you want to make skateboarding/martial art a career, why dont you just do what you're supposed to?

Let me tell you this: You enjoy skateboarding? Give it everything, give it everything u have and eventually, after some years, you'll become BIG in this sport. Because yes, you might be just a little drop in the ocean right now, but if u really want your life as a skateboarder, give it everything you have. You have to be passionate about it, you have to give it a lot of time. But the time you'll give into it will reward you - you'll become a master in it.

But now, tell me. Do you think you'll be THAT passionate about skateboarding? Or will it be boxing? Ask yourself. What will I get from boxing? Wha from skateboarding? Is it the THING I REALLY want to do? You can do both now, but after some time, you'll have to make a decision.

You can keep computer engineering as a back up, but i would definitely suggest you to watch video: alan watts - what if money was no object.

I didn't exactly answer your question, just put up here some ideas, hope it'll help you a little bit :)
