Go to City Hall and inquire about the property tax due. Bring all of your paperwork. If no taxes have been paid since 1995, you will be in for a surprise. Be prepared to pay a hefty sum. You don't have to pay it all at once but you do need to get started processing.

You do not need to contact a lawyer. Just inquire in the Property Tax Section and bring along all of your paperwork.
You know how lawyers will take advantage of you. They do not have your interest in mind, only theirs.
So, check first on your own. It's free.

Wilma m: you need to have a lawyer to check that out for you as there are many types of fees & penalties involved. So I suggest that you contact a lawyer in the same town as where the lot is.
