I would be careful...He cheated on her so if something was to happen between you guys, whats to say he wont cheat on you...

I would have said you should consider your friends feeling but also follow yours but you mention that he cheated on her, that put me off and makes me think that if he cheated on your friend then he could also cheat on you.
